SSTAR
magician David Copperfield is being investigated by the FBI after a
Seattle woman accused him of sexual assault.
The unnamed woman did not file the rape
allegations until she returned to the US.
Copperfield's attorney David Chesnoff said: "An unidentified woman has
made serious allegations against David Copperfield.
"It is important these allegations be put into perspective. Although
authorities have not revealed her identity to us, we know these
allegations are false because David Copperfield has never forced himself
on anyone."
Copperfield has cancelled his upcoming shows in
South-east Asia following the allegations against him, a Thai organiser
said.
"His management sent an email to organisers
yesterday to inform that his shows will be postponed indefinitely," said
Kittiyong Achawaphong, a public relations official of RSi Dream
Entertainment, which organised his shows in Thailand.
Copperfield was scheduled to perform in
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand in coming weeks.
The FBI, who raided a Las Vegas warehouse and the MGM Grand where
Copperfield performed last Wednesday, confirmed the raids were in
connection to a Seattle case.
Seattle FBI Agent Robbie Burroughs said: "The investigation is related to
a Seattle case. The Seattle case is pending and that means we can't say
anything about it."
The warehouse searched by the FBI - known as the International Museum and
Library of the Conjuring Arts - stores tricks and memorabilia from around
the world.
Copperfield, 51, has performed his six-to-eight week long runs at Las
Vegas'
MGM Grand for many years.
The magician ended his most recent run with two shows on Wednesday night.
He is next scheduled to perform in Jakarta, Indonesia.
 Frank
Paris, a puppeteer who created the
original Howdy Doody marionette, died of lung cancer earlier this month at
home in North Hollywood. He was 70. Paris created puppets in the images of
such stars as Carmen Miranda and Sonja Henie and performed with them
around the world. His original Howdy Doody marionette debuted on the
kiddie show in 1947, but was taken off after six months due to a contract
dispute with NBC. A new Howdy was created by a former Walt Disney artist.
Which brings us to
Velma Wayne Dawson,
the woman credited with making the marionettes for the Howdy Doody
show from 1948 until it went off the air in 1960. She was discovered
unresponsive on her bed at home in Palm Desert yesterday. She was 94. She
recently was honored by the Pacific Southwest chapter of the National
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for 50 years in TV.
